Aquastop system in dishwasher hoses to protect against leaks

The Bosch dishwasher allows you to significantly simplify modern life, eliminating the need for a person to wash the dishes on their own, spending a lot of time on it, which can be used much more efficiently.

It is important to remember that the use of any Bosch home appliance requires compliance with some basic rules, thanks to which the appliances will serve their owners longer without requiring repair. They are spelled out, as a rule, in the instructions.

Particular attention should be paid to the installation and connection of the dishwasher, since not only the convenience of using it depends on this, but also the safety when it is working.

The Aquastop system, which is often found in modern household appliances connected to water, serves to protect against leaks.

The words "water" and "stop" are used by various companies to describe various products for completing dishwashers. They all try to “stop” water damage in different situations by providing protection. The so-called "Aquastop" systems with a valve in the instruments can combine the detection system for more than one leak, including using a float switch sensor at the base of the instrument, which works like a float.

However, this article addresses the actual application of the aquastop valve hose that comes with several brands of dishwashers (including AEG, Neff, Bosch & Siemens).

How does the aqua-stop hose work in the dishwasher

aqua stop hose device

Basically, aquastop works like a hose within a hose. The outer sleeve is made of corrugated plastic, it is designed to retain water, if the inner layer is damaged, this is a reliable protection against leaks. There is also a plastic case at the end where it works by connecting to a water tap.

If the inner hose ever leaks, then the device inside this housing is able to detect the incident and prevent further water ingress into it thanks to a special valve, thus the system protection is triggered. When trouble occurs, the sensor no longer allows water to enter the device and is usually indicated by a red dot in a small window in the housing. The wizard will then be able to establish why this happened.

After the aquastop is triggered, it becomes useless and cannot be restored, that is, the protection will be violated, requiring replacement with a new one, in order to avoid leaks in the future.

Note that modern aquastop systems can be of different types:

- mechanical

- absorbents

- electromagnetic.

Mechanical systems to combat leaks in dishwashers today are no longer installed due to their low efficiency. Absorbent-based aquastop are much more common. It works as follows: when a leak occurs, moisture flows down the hose into the sump, where it is absorbed by a special material. Then it expands and the valve shuts off water access.

The electromagnetic aquastop works in a similar way, being a modern version of the absorbent with a valve.

What are the problems associated with the aqua-stop hose

dimensions of aqua stop valve

The main problem is that such aqua stop systems are relatively inflexible, which is why they can create additional difficulties during installation, depending on the place of installation and plumbing.

They cannot be lengthened if they are too short, negating the leakage protection.

The size of a massive plastic body with a valve at the end of the hose at the point of connection to the water tap makes it especially difficult to adapt in many places where there is little free space. So in many situations this may be the reason why it is impossible to connect the aquastop hose to the existing plumbing, providing protection against leaks.

Many bosch dishwasher owners point out that some of these aquastop units should only be installed pointing down. Therefore, be sure to check the instructions before installing.

Can you replace the aqua stop hose with a regular one

replacement aqua stop hose

Many aqua stop hoses do nothing more than protect against leaks with a mechanical stop mechanism that is activated by water leakage inside the tank. Therefore, you can replace such a system with a regular dishwasher sleeve. Of course, if you are not worried about a possible flood in your house or apartment.

However, some aqua stop systems actually have an electrical solenoid inside, with wires running through a hose from the dishwasher.

In this case, the blockage of the water flow through the hose acts as a remote control for filling the valve, which will not be available in a conventional hose.

If the dishwasher also has a regular filling of the solenoid with a pulling device attached to it, and the aqua stop system simply supplies it with electrical power while energized when the main valve is in working order, then the conventional analog should also work fine.

There are cases when some manufacturers threaten to void your warranty if you do not use their product. It doesn't make any sense at all. Such an aqua stop hose only protects against cracking or erosion by bad water, which is actually quite a rare event these days anyway.
