Review of the Okami U100 robot vacuum cleaner

The Okami U100 Laser is the flagship 2020 model from the renowned Okami Group manufacturer. The robot vacuum cleaner is equipped with a laser lidar, Japanese NIDEC motor, advanced wet cleaning and more. In this review, we will evaluate the appearance of the device, its technical characteristics, functionality and summarize.

Appearance

Okami u100

The Okami U100 robot vacuum cleaner is made in a standard round form factor. Its diameter is 33 cm, the height together with the lidar tower is 9.8 cm. In Russia, the robot vacuum cleaner is presented in the only possible version - “digital black”. The surface is glossy, the pattern resembles digital camouflage. Overall, it looks modern and stylish, but handprints are visible on the vacuum cleaner. On the top of the case there is a power button and a return to base button. The tower, which houses the laser rangefinder, is movable and has a small backward travel. This is done in order to prevent the robot from getting stuck, catching the tower on the obstacle. On the side of the U100 there is a power button and a connector for direct charging from the adapter. On the other side, there is a speaker for playing voice notifications. The bumper also has a TOF window on one side. It is a sensor that measures the distance to an object. It allows the robot to move close to walls. Also, on the side of the robot there is a QR code for installing a mobile application. On the back of the robot there are three wheels - two large and one small front. Next to it are the charging contacts, with which the robot contacts the base. Optical height sensors are visible on the bumper. The side brushes are interesting here, as they are equipped with an additional protrusion that prevents hair and wool from winding up. In the center is a V-shaped turbo brush made of a combination of silicone and nap. A UV lamp can be seen above the suction inlet - this is an option that can be installed additionally.

Functional

Okami u100

It is one of the most versatile and functional models on the market today. It's worth starting with the suction power. This robot is powered by a Japanese Nidec engine that generates a pressure of 2500 Pa. The closest competitors have an indicator of 2200 Pa. This power allows the U100 to cope with light-nap carpets with ease. The air is blown up without blowing dust from the floor. The key advantage of this vacuum cleaner is the laser rangefinder, otherwise known as lidar. This is a laser that measures the distance to surrounding objects. Within a few seconds after starting, the robot creates a map of the visible part of the room. The cleaning algorithm is as follows - first, the vacuum cleaner estimates the perimeter of the room, and then carefully “shades” it.There is also a function to continue an interrupted cleaning, which allows the robot to resume from the place where it was discharged. By the way, the operating time on one battery charge is about two hours. Responsible for this is a capacious 3200 mAh lithium battery. Wet cleaning should be noted separately. The U100 robot can regulate the level of water supply from the tank in three modes, and the cleaning algorithm is different from dry. When the water tank is installed, the robot does not just drive straight, but moves back and forth with the letter “Y”, simulating cleaning with a mop. A very good solution, in our opinion.

Application functionality

Okami u100

In the application, you can see a map of the apartment, even when not at home. Interestingly, you can set a separate area for cleaning and the robot will purposefully go there from any part of the apartment for cleaning. In the application, the base is marked on the map, so that the robot does not get lost on the way back. Okami U100 does not have a virtual wall in the kit, but it is in the application. Directly on the map of the apartment, you can draw a line that the robot will not be allowed to cross. Thus, it is possible to separate both individual zones and entire rooms from the robot. Speaking of zones, we can single out an entire area that will be forbidden for a robot. In addition to these newest features, in the application you can see the cleaning route, the area harvested. It is also possible to set a schedule for a week with a choice of specific days.
