To supply water to washing machines, they are connected to the water supply using a water inlet hose. Most often, a branch is then made that has a tap so that you can instantly shut off the water supply. The inlet hose for the washing machine comes in a set with the equipment itself - you do not need to purchase it additionally.
However, what should you do if you need to replace it? Replacement may be required for a variety of reasons: leakage, damage to the shell, inappropriate length, or poor quality standard part. To purchase a truly high-quality hose for a washing machine, you need to know their varieties and how much a high-quality inlet hose costs. Just about this and will be written below.
Varieties of the inlet hose
The filling hoses for the washing machine have a very simple device diagram. At the base of the inlet hose is a small PVC pipe, which is reinforced with reinforced thread and nylon braid. This filling device consists of several layers, which allows us to hope for its strength - they have sufficient resistance against bursts and are ready to withstand high water pressure.
At the end, the filling hoses are reinforced with metal sleeves, fittings and nuts are visible from it. One fitting is screwed to the washing machine, the second to the water pipe. Fittings, nuts are made plastic. They are not particularly strong, so they are tightened by hand, and not with a wrench - this will save them from damage.
This design of the inlet hose is very common - this is how they come with a washing machine. They usually have a certain length. When the washing machine is installed outside the water mains, an extended water inlet hose will be required. These pipes can be purchased separately, the length of such a hose varies from 1 to 6 m. The design that has protection against leaks is called Aquastop. The simple hoses mentioned above are capable of tearing - this happens due to natural wear and tear. If there are water leaks, you can easily flood your neighbors. Hoses with the Aquastop system neutralize this possibility.
A hose with an Aquastop protection unit is a design where 1 tube goes inside the second. Between them there is a special material, when water hits it, it swells, which triggers the protection valve, which shuts off the water. The system operates as follows:
- normal mode - water flows through the internal, main inlet hose;
- if it is damaged (rupture or slow leakage), water affects the swelling material;
- the material swells and the valve is triggered, blocks the water, the floor in the building remains dry.
These hoses are distinguished by their high price compared to the classic ones, however, they provide a guarantee of protection against possible leakage. It also happens that the washing machine, even without working, produces a set of water, in which case the hose with the Akvostop system will not help you.
Incorrect position of the inlet hoses
It is important that it is located in the correct position in relation to the connections to the water supply, as well as to the washer. The plastic part of the inlet hose inside must be correctly positioned under the rubber gasket. When twisted, it should apply equal pressure to the gasket on each side. At the place with the lowest pressure during the water supply, a water leak can form.
If water is leaking for this reason, then it is enough that you correctly position the inlet hose and tighten the joints a little more.
Connecting the water inlet hose to washing machines
To connect the inlet hose to the washing machine, you must take care of the connection to the water supply. In this place, a tee and a shut-off valve are installed, a plastic nut and a fitting are screwed to the tee. As a rule, for the entire time of using the washing machine, these operations do not have to be constantly performed, as well as replacing the drain hose.
Professionals advise additionally installing a mechanical filter along with the insert, which purifies the water (in addition to the mesh that is already installed at the entrance to the machine). Due to this, the washing machine will be protected from the penetration of dirt. The filter is placed behind the tee, in front of the filling tube.
What to do if the washing machine is not installed near the water supply? In such a situation, several inlet hoses can be connected in series. However, a better solution is to lay an additional plastic pipe to the place of installation of the machine - thus, the chance to avoid leaks is higher. Accordingly, the shut-off taps are in any case installed at the place of the tie-in into the main water supply.
When connecting pipes made of plastic, it is recommended to use an appropriate tool. After the washing machine is running, it is necessary to block the access of water to the machine.
How to screw inlet hose correctly? Some users do this with great effort, but this should not be done - there is a high probability of damage to the nuts made of plastic. It is necessary to tighten them by hand, without using tools and other improvised means that increase the effort.
