Bosch Dishwasher Troubleshooting

Bosch dishwasher malfunctionsBosch is one of the major players in the home appliance industry with a significant share of the dishwasher market. They are usually very reliable, however, unfortunately, sometimes something can go wrong, and you will need to fix the breakdown by repairing your Bosch machine.

The good news is that since these dishwashers are so popular, service, parts and repairs are widely available. These household appliances are, in fact, quite simple, so that most of the problems you may encounter often require fairly simple repairs that you can do yourself.

Here are some tips on some of the most common dishwasher problems you may encounter. For more detailed advice on the Bosch dishwasher, we recommend reading our other articles on this topic.

Differences in dishwasher models

differences in dishwasher buttonsOne of the most common differences between dishwashing machine models is the trite name of the buttons.

For example, Power SCRUB PLUS or REGULAR WASH may be called WASH or ECO depending on the dishwasher model and the country you are in. Another important difference is the presence of a display that can display error codes or lack thereof. In this case, the program indicator button will light up to tell you about the problem.

As a reminder, model numbers are usually found at the top or ledge of a door.

Starting a test cycle

start checkBosch dishwashers have a test mode that can be run as a troubleshooting step. The way to start this testing process is similar across the Bosch range of models, so if your machine's features seem to differ from those described below, it's worth experimenting as the process is similar, only slightly different.

Hold the POWER SCRUB PLUS and REGULAR WASH buttons to start the test mode. Holding the ON / OFF button down may also help. The indicator above them should blink.

Now you can check the status of each program by clicking on the button, or you can start the full testing period.

Press Power SCRUB PLUS and REGULAR WASH buttons. The electronic device will start, and when the selected mode is over, if you do not have a display, the indicator on your dishwasher model will light up if a malfunction has been detected.

Meaning of fault indicators

trouble codesCLEAN

Temperature sensor malfunction. If this is the case, then the test cycle will be very short, as the instrument stops testing as soon as it is detected.

RINSE / DRY

Water / tank fill sensor. If this problem occurs, the test cycle will not be completed because the dishwasher cannot determine the correct water level by simply filling / draining over and over again.

WASH

Heating malfunction. Check heating element.

Meaning of error codes on the display

dishwasher test codesIf your Bosch dishwasher has a display panel, after completing the test cycle, an error code will be displayed if a malfunction is detected.

Error codes are interpreted as follows:

0 - no errors were found.

1 - Water sensor or filling failure.

2 - Heating malfunction.

4 - Water filling error. It can also show up as an F on the display during a normal cycle.

8 - Faulty temperature sensor.

When troubleshooting a Bosch dishwasher, performing the above test cycle is a good start in diagnosing the problem. The result will give you an idea of where the problem lies, as well as what repairs will be required to fix the problem.

Troubleshooting basic problems

hose checkIf something goes wrong and doesn't work when starting a wash cycle on your Bosch dishwasher, stay calm. This can be a minor issue, especially if you just installed it.

Power check

Make sure the power cord is plugged in correctly and the switch does not operate.

Airing the hose

After that, check if the hose is not airy, especially if it was not blown before installation, it may have air bubbles inside, which retains water.

To do this, disconnect the water supply hose from the dishwasher and let some water pass through it before reinstalling the hose.

The wash cycle is interrupted

The Bosch dishwasher does not draw water if the previous cycle was interrupted. Reset the dishwasher by pressing and holding the “Start” button for at least three seconds.

Depending on the model, you can also click the “Cancel-Reset” button to reset. Select a new cycle and click “Start”.

Water supply

Check the water supply hose under the sink. If it has been disabled or blocked for any reason, the dishwasher will generate an error in the program and will not be able to fill the tank with water, even if the water supply is resumed within a few seconds.

Filter hose

Most Bosch dishwashers have a small filter inside the hose to prevent foreign particles from the water supply from entering the dishwasher.

Disconnect the hose and remove the filter inside. Then clean it thoroughly to remove any third-party elements and reinstall it.

Water pressure

Make sure you have enough water pressure to start the dishwasher and pump.

To check, take a 4L container and turn the tap all the way to fill it. If you have enough water pressure to start the dishwasher, the container should fill within 30 seconds.

Filler valve problem

dishwasher inlet valveInside the bottom of the dishwasher, on the back of the panel, there is a water inlet valve that operates with electricity.

Unplug the power cord or turn off the power to the device using the machine. Remove the panel by unscrewing two screws on both sides.

Detach the screws that hold the front door panel inside the dishwasher; pull the door panel down and set it aside.

Close the door to access the water intake valve. The filler valve has two wires that connect it to the block diagram. Check to make sure they are securely fastened.

Also check the valve for damage or leaks. If damaged, buy a new one using the dishwasher model number and replace it; otherwise, have your technician do it for you.

    Thank you very much
    helped

  2. Valery:

At the very end of the process (the dishes are clean!), The remaining (also clean and not soapy) water is not drained - it stands at the level of the pump opening. I checked the filter and pump, as in the video. Everything seems to be fine. The most interesting thing is that this does not happen every time. Approximately 2-3 times for 5 washes.
    What could be there?

Good afternoon. An interesting problem, I can't find a similar one anywhere: I open the door after washing, and the tablet lies on the shelf of the upper basket for dishes. Accordingly, the quality of the sink is “just rinsed”. And this has been constant for a week. What could it be? Weak water pressure?

    1. amaksil1:

Hello! In your case, there may be several reasons:

      1. Do not place the tablet with wet hands or in a wet cuvette, it may stick.
      2. The tablets may have been stored incorrectly, moisture got into them, they have hardened and now dissolve poorly or do not dissolve at all.
      3. Problem with dispenser. Perhaps the water supply holes are clogged with detergent or limescale.
      4. The filter mesh, which is located immediately behind the inlet hose, is clogged.
      5. Clogged filler valve.
      6. The spray nozzles may be clogged.

It is necessary to consistently check everything for blockages and, if necessary, clean.

    Good afternoon.
Everything about the car is not clear at all. She worked for 8 years. Super! But then the trouble happened. Water flows in, water is pumped out. And that's it !!!!! The whole cycle goes on. There are no errors. The tablet remains in place. Even water-soluble protection on it, i.e. water does not splash or heat up. What could be? I ask for advice!

    1. amaksil1:

Apparently the washing process does not start for you. Self-draining goes.

  5. Alexander:

When washing, knocks out the fuse from the system filter! Before this incident, it worked for a year without any problems! I changed the filter, changed the connection point: the story is the same. The fuse blows!

    1. amaksil1:

There is a short circuit. You need to test the entire power supply circuit in sequence. The filter saves your wiring, it's good that it is.

Hello Bosh SPS40E car. We have such a problem - water is collected, then the tap indicator lights up, then the water is drained and the washing process is over. Thanks in advance.

    1. amaksil1:

You have a water overflow sensor, you need to carry out diagnostics. Alternatively, TENA breaks, but this is less common. Call the master, you cannot fix it yourself.

Hello Bosh SPS40E car (without display). The filling indicator is flashing. The car will make a little noise, stand still, make some noise again, etc. Does not respond to the ON and Start buttons. Disconnecting doesn't help.
