The procedure for dismantling split systems with your own hands - step by step instructions

Dismantling a split system with your own handsAre you moving to a new place of residence or changing the location of your office and want to do it yourself to dismantle an air conditioner or split system? Depending on the type of device, the dismantling of air conditioners has its own characteristics. Also, this process is influenced by the season, and of course the availability of the appropriate tool.

Only a team of professionals can quickly and efficiently dismantle split air conditioners, but their work costs a lot of money, especially if you need to dismantle several split systems at once. The dismantling price depends on the capacity of the air conditioners - the higher the capacity, the higher the dismantling price.

But there is always an alternative. You can dismantle the air conditioner yourself, for this you need to have all the necessary tools and, of course, know how to do it.

Dismantling the wall split system

Removing an oversized wall-mounted air conditioner will not be difficult if you have the following set of tools:

  1. Swedish keys - 2 pcs;
  2. Pipe cutters or nippers;
  3. Manometer;
  4. Simple and indicator screwdriver;
  5. Set of wrenches;
  6. Hexagon set;
  7. In order to dismantle the air conditioner while preserving freon, we need a gauge station (if dismantling will be carried out in winter).

Dismantling the air conditioner with preserving freon begins with pumping freon into the external unit in order to use it again later. To do this, connect a pressure gauge to the gas valve of the branch pipe through the shredder valve. The next step is to remove the side panel, and use the hexagon to turn the valve on the blower. Within two minutes, the pressure should drop below zero. We turn on the suction valve, turn off the air conditioner and disconnect from the electricity.

Dismantling the wall split system

Next, using pliers or a pipe cutter, we disconnect (cut) the main pipes at a distance of 15-20 cm from the fitting, roll them and remove the outdoor module from the brackets. The outdoor unit must be placed in a tight cardboard box and covered with foam on the sides. We unscrew the brackets with wrenches.

Important:

The condensing unit is transported in a strictly vertical position.

We proceed to dismantle the indoor unit of the split system. We open the cover that protects the device from external damage, unscrew the fasteners from both sides that hold the module. We disconnect the pipeline, roll the ends of the tubes with a vice, disconnect the inter-side electrical wires, remove the block from the mounting plate and unclench the fastening latches.
Now we remove the fastening of the remaining pipeline and plastic box. At this stage, the dismantling of the split system with your own hands is almost complete, it remains only to carefully pack the split system and transport it to a new location.

Advice:

If you strictly follow the proposed scheme, then the next time you install the air conditioner, you will not have to fill it with freon.

We dismantle channel-type split systems

It is much more difficult to dismantle a channel-type air conditioner on your own, since it weighs much more and you will have to disconnect the air ducts from the unit. To dismantle a channel-type air conditioner with our own hands, we need the same set as for a wall-mounted split system.

The first stage of dismantling is the analysis of the duct. We remove the grille with the flow-exhaust adapter. We remove the air ducts by disconnecting them from the indoor unit. If they are flexible, then remove the clamps, if they are metal, then unscrew the screws. We pump freon into the external block of the receiver and start dismantling it in the same way as in the wall-mounted split system.

We loosen the nuts of the evaporating block and dismantle the freon line, electrical wires and drain hose. Carefully remove the block from the wall and pack.

How to dismantle column, cassette and console split systems

do-it-yourself column-type air conditioner dismantling does not differ in complexity from dismantling a wall-mounted split system. Dismantling takes place according to the following scheme:

  1. we check the pressure with a pressure gauge and pump freon into the indoor module;
  2. disconnect all connecting lines of the external unit and dismantle it.
  3. we disconnect all connecting lines from the indoor unit and dismantle it.

The room column air conditioner does not have a mounting plate (like a wall air conditioner), there are no studs (like a column, cassette and console) to which it would be attached, so it is easy to dismantle.

How to dismantle column, cassette and console split systems

Cassette split systems are dismantled according to the channel scheme. When dismantling the indoor unit, loosen the nuts on the fasteners, and then carry out the rest of the manipulations. In this case, the only difference is that there are no air ducts.
You can remove the console split system according to the instructions for the channel or wall split system.

Important:

Do not dismantle the outdoor unit when it is raining or snowing, because moisture can get inside the ports, and moisture can damage the compressor.
